About the Artist
Artisana Designs is an independent jewelry studio created by artist and metalsmith Alissa. Each piece is designed and made by hand in her South Florida studio, shaped by a life spent exploring the landscapes of the American West.
Before returning to jewelry, Alissa’s path carried her from the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone to the Tetons, Montana, Colorado, and Alaska. Her study of ecology and natural history took place largely in the field—immersed in mountain and desert landscapes and learning them through close observation and direct experience. She went on to build a career dedicated to conserving wild places. This deep familiarity with the land continues to inform the colors, textures, materials, and sculptural forms of her work. Her experience with mosaic also influences her approach to composition and material.
Artisana Designs jewelry combines hand-forged metals, turquoise and other stones, deerskin, leather, and elemental materials. Natural edges, visible settings, subtle irregularities, and evidence of the maker’s hand are intentional parts of each design. Many pieces begin with a distinctive stone—sometimes minimally shaped, weathered, or collected during Alissa’s travels—and evolve in response to its individual form.
The result is jewelry that feels both ancient and modern: sculptural, grounded, and meant to be worn as a personal artifact.
Each Artisana piece is made slowly and by hand. Many are one of a kind, while others are created in very small quantities. No two are exactly alike.
